Whenever, I hear this word "sify" I get reminded of the utter frustration and stubbornness, I have ever experienced. I consider sify operators, and every body associated with sify, our future politicians. The sify internet operators really possess all the qualities of our present politicians. The plight of modern India is that Company like sify is among the largest internet service providers here.
It has been over an year using Sify and I can "proudly" say that I never have been able to use so called SIFY BROADBAND more than 2 months during this interval. I admit my mistake that I fell in the trap of sify operators by going after their false claims. Within 6 hours of applying for the connection, the sify local operators came to woo me, and being impressed by their super-activeness I felt proud at being a sify user. But that day has proved to be the worst day for my internet life. I am currently using sify "happy hours plan" for one month [although these are unhappy hours] for which I have to pay about 580 rupees[150 MB per day,night unlimited at 64 kbps].The download speed is very slow (7 kbps) and the cap of 150 mb per day also hurts. Although its costlier than other ISPs (same plan in MTNL gives you 256 kbps with about same charge) but it becomes pretty expensive because It remains disconnected for over 20 days a month. And if you are thinking those 10 days are happy days of internet pleasure, you are wrong, those 10 days are the days when it remains disconnected for some 1 to 4 hours [as the interval of disconnection is counted in terms of days for sify users]. There are more types of disconnection errors in sify broadband like BB101, BB108, BB111 etc. than number of days you will be able to use sify broadband. The basic fact that Sify doesn't handle its connections on its own, prove its incompetence. It hires different unreliable local agencies which distributes its connections and maintains it. Means if you want sify connection, you cannot directly contact sify, you would have to ask a middle man to give you connection on their behalf and every time you have to deal with him to have your work like recharging the package, connection problem. There are also sify call centers
but more often the people there are more rude than local operators. Calling the sify call centers is itself a headache, they can hold your call for infinite period of time and its not toll-free. Most of the times they hold your call or ask you to leave your phone number saying that they would call you back. One day I had to keep on holding my call thinking that their operator would come at last for half an hour. So its better to call again if you hear that" executives are busy, please hold the line , your call is important to us". May be they have a virgin phone number which pays them for holding the call of the callers for infinite period of time. Local operators of sify are better in this case, they won't even pick up your call even if you call them hundred times, and they have innovated different ways like musical busy caller tunes to shoo away the complainers. They are stubborn and would tell you that they are doing their work even if you call them after 10 pm. Even hundred calls both to local operators and sify call centers can't resolve your problem, so its better not to increase your phone bill. I realized this after seeing that my phone bills have almost doubled after taking sify internet connection. Every time I start the internet (when its working obviously), sify pops up useless advertisements like matrimony.com, biryani.sify.com etc etc.. and same happens while you are surfing. There is no way to escape these crap pop ups. Recently sify didn't allow me to open internet and asked me to uninstall my AVG free edition of antivirus (which I use along with other spy wares and firewall) and instead install trends micro anti virus provided by them. I heard that the version provided by them is crap, has to be manually updated and has problems with its updates and registration. So I decided to call up sify call center as ask them to withdraw that anti virus restriction. I was horrified to listen to the rudeness of the executive there. He refused to do that saying my AVG free is limited version for 1 month and doesn't provide good security compared to great trend micro Anti virus of theirs. I told him that I am myself doing computer engineering and know about my security. He didn't listen and ended the call. Then I called another number of their call center and they did it for me. This isn't just my plight. If you want to know more about this fraud band, I just suggest you to google "sify broadband" and you would no praises for sify or any information about it but on the first page itself you would find thousands of sufferers like me who are urging agencies like TRAI to look into this matter.There was no option for me other than sify because I have MTNL landline on which I can't get internet as its gets reimbursment from my dad's office with no internet condition, But for you all I advice you to stay miles away from this internet and don't ever go for it even if you get it for free (it would increase your phone bills). I hope one day one of the sify users would sue this fraud company in the court and get its ass properly aligned. After finishing this article, I must tell you that it took 4 sessions for me to complete this article thanx to the Sify decoit-band for it. And also thanks to auto saving mode of posts in the blogspot, that I haven't lost any part of this article due to disconnections.

More than 3 months with this gadget has given me an amazing
experience of music.
Before I had bought "My zen" , I was hell confused about its
claims especially against the renowned "ipod". But now having
this, I have realized it is really better than the stereotype "ipod".
Even many of my "ipod" friends have also acknowledged it.
Although, rejecting ipod and buying "zen" does'nt leave one's
pocket heavier. It costs just around 10$ cheaper than ipod. But
its certainly more than its worth, especially if you realize the sole
purpose of these kind of players i.e. music. Sound is certainly
better than ipod in "zen". Especially the bass is awesome [ the
best ever heard by me]. Bass makes you feel that the earphones
are precise woofers. Sound is certainly great, crystal clear and
loud enough.
Although sound lacks the great stereo-widening of Sony. But
overall sound feels better. Sony players lack that much pure bass
while zen looses on stereo-widening of sound in the earphones.
So for all Rock and death metal lovers, zen seems to be a better
choice and for pop and hip hop lovers Sony is better choice but
they wont be able to experience ever the pure bass of zen.
Also rival Sony players are costlier . The Apple Ipod certainly
looses on every aspects of sound quality.
The zen also features big (2.5 " ) brilliant LCD display . Its
display is best in its class with very high resolution. Photos and
videos look bright and vivid. Ipod nano (2") looses out to a
bigger screen. The outlook of the player is cool and elegant but
its front glossy side attracts very fine scratches. And the
navigation and other buttons look cheap as compared to famous
scroll wheel of Ipod which is certainly the coolest feature of the
Ipod. Navigation in Zen is slower than ipod.
The Ipod's great ultra sleek design is a delight although credit
card sized Zen is also very thin.
As far as design is concerned Zen looses on every
aspect whether its keys or the player's outlook, although both
are of almost same size except the fact that Ipod width is about
2/3 times of the Zen.
The best feature of Zen is yet to be disclosed, it connects with
PC without any driver or software. You just need windows XP
service pack 2 and just when you connect the zen to your PC, you
will find a small cute icon of zen in the task bar. It connects as a
portable media device. You can copy/ cut every thing right from
your windows explorer. Although a software CD by creative is
also provided for additional features like zen explorer, video
converter, to upgrade firmware etc. Even windows media player
and new winamp also detects Zen. While you can play songs in
the player by windows media player but you can do it with the
Winamp.
It synchronizes easily with both.
Album art is also synchronized by both automatically to the
player.
The battery life of the player is good, Although it doesn't
perform that well as claimed (25 hours of music) but the "lock
feature"which shuts down the screen can fetch you about 20
hours of music.
I was able to watch complete 2 movies(2:30 min each) with good
experience.
The video playback may last upto 6 hours [10 hours claimed].
Zen also features FM radio although connectivity isn't very good
indoors but sound quality is cool with max. 32 preset channels.
The acclaimed external memory card feature is over-hyped, the
player treats external memory card as an additional attachment
and the library of the player doesn't synchronize with the device.
You have to go to the memory card option in the main menu
separately and browse the music or video files in the card.
There are also some problems in the recognition of the external
card by the player.
The additional features like calender, contacts, equalizer are also
cool.
But it lack Ipod-games feature of the ipod..
It charges with the usb port., also standard Motorola phone
charger can be used. to charge it with the home electricity
supply.
Also it supports most audio,video and image formats [AAC,
MP3, WAV, MPEG, XVID, BMP, GIF, PNG, JPEG etc] unlike
the limited copyrighted formats of the ipod.
You will also be able to run some high resolution movies too
without conversion unlike the limited copyrighted formats of the
ipod.
So you better buy it if you wanna feel real music through your
earphones and are fed up with the "ipod-ipod" lingo.

HOW TO FORCEFULLY DELETE A FILE/FOLDER ?

SOME OF YOU MUST HAVE COME ACROSS SOME STUBBORN FILES/FOLDERS WHICH REFUSE TO BE MOVED/DELETED.

HERE IS THE SIMPLE METHOD TO DELETE THE PARTICULAR FILE OR THE DIRECTORY:

1) GO TO COMMAND PROMPT [ TYPE "cmd" IN RUN ] AND NAVIGATE TO THE PARTICULAR FILE [NO NEED TO NAVIGATE TO THE FOLDER IN CASE OF FOLDER]
2) OPEN WINDOWS TASK MANAGER
3) KILL THE PROCESS "explorer.exe"
4) NOW DELETE THE CONCERNED FILE OR DIRECTORY [FOLDER] IN THE DOS MODE.
TO REMOVE FILE TYPE "del " [ eg: del C:\documents and settings\desktop\xyz.exe ]
TO REMOVE FOLDER USE "rd " [ eg: rd C:\documents and settings
\desktop\ABC /s ]
{ /s IS USED TO DELETE EVERY FILE AND FOLDER INSIDE THAT FOLDER }
5) NOW IN THE FILE MENU OF WINDOWS TASK MANAGER CREATE NEW TASK, TYPE "explorer.exe"
6) !!!!!!DONE!!!!!!!!

"I am having a virus in my system........can i cure it ?"

Many of you may have asked this question. And many must have suggested you to format the system. And now you must repenting for your uncaring nature to take preventions.

So is there any straight answer to the question? Surely answer is yes, nothing is impossible in this holy world. But the thing is, professional help will charge u money worth a new hard disk.
So how to cure it in an easy way? As you know Internet is ultimate source of knowledge.
The answer to cure lies in its disease [in this case its internet].

Coming to the point, I will suggest to wait before formatting.

Firstly, you should be able to find out atleast the name of the virus or its some characteristic like
does it remove the shut down button, run command, task manager.
Are you able to open task manager?
If the answer is yes. Your work has become much easier.
How ? [Ans: you will find out later]

Though there are different methods for removing different viruses, we will follow general trend.
Lets discuss manual method first. Although this is sure shot method for most viruses, but this is not the easiest one.

1st method:
If your task manager is opening without any problem, see the processes running in the processes tab, you may be able to find a doubt-full process/es which may resemble the name of the virus.
Terminate the process and you will find most of the features blocked by the virus, working as normal.
But many viruses are'nt so easy to trace and the process/es of virus [ program of virus or u can say virus itself] take the name of a window process or camouflage in the window process.
But many times terminating a window process is more dangerous than the virus, so you must be completely sure of the process you are terminating.
Go on net and find the information about the doubt-full process.
As you may know the virus processes, you can leave the virus remain in the computer and work normally for the time being. You should now prevent the virus from running again at startup. For that you should remove the registry key through which its able to run each time you start your PC. For this, you must have some basic knowledge of system registries.
Anyways, you should use the task manager ’s Run command to fire up regedit[type "regedit" in run]. Then navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run (as usual, take a backup of your registry before touching it!)
If you find any unknown entry which is not related to any other software etc and seems to have some similarity with virus name or its process , delete that entry.
This entry stores the keys by which programs and processes run at start up.

Another way of removing virus key is going to msconfig [type msconfig at run] and under start up tab uncheck the undesired [virus] process.This way your done.

To remove the virus completely you would have to terminate the process forever or you would now have to delete each virus file and virus infected files till every file gets cleaned [but mostly its not required ].
You would have to remove every trace of virus manually by removing each file associated with the virus. Remove cache, browser history etc if the virus is came through the internet.

If your task manager is also disabled by the virus, you should download third party process manager like sysintenals processes manager.
So lets discuss about another way through which I have been able to remove most viruses and is easier.

2nd method:
This method is easier but success depends on wether virus allows us to do delete itself. You may be confused but its true to some extent.
Tools we require for this method are : kaspersky [the best antivirus available], spyware and malware removal tool like spyware doctor or take any good spyware removal software available on internet for free.

Many of you would be amazed why am i calling kaspersky, the best. Its because its the best.
You would be one of the NORTON kinds, who has been made to realize that NORTON is the only best anti virus software. But unfortunately its not.
I will consider the NORTONs greatness in next post.
Now, firstly we have to download latest trial version of kaspersky from its website.
Although its valid for 30 days only, it will serve your purpose to remove the virus.
Why it took only kaspersky only ? because it has a unique self defense mechanism which prevents its alteration by the virus while being installed. So virus would'nt be able to prevent the installation of the definition of itself in the kaspersky which is actually the tool for its removal.
Also install spyware/malware removal tool.
Now in simple steps:
1) we have to run kaspersky and malware/spyware removal tool in normal mode [normal mode is the mode you actually use normally, or default mode which turns on automatically when you turn on the computer].
Most of the times this step does'nt yield out the virus but still we have to try our luck.
Just to increase the chances, you can terminate the process you think is associated with the virus.
2) after performing scan in the normal mode[default mode] , now you should perform scan in the safe mode.
With this kaspersky must be able to detect the virus and clean it on its own.
3) similarly run spyware/malware removal tool first on normal mode and the safe mode.

HOW TO GET INTO SAFE MODE?

Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list, click Shut down.
In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
When you see the message Please select the operating system to start, press F8.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and then press ENTER.

4)another important step, make sure to turn off system restore at last.

TO TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE:

Open system properties
Ensure that the Turn off system restore check box is selected.

To open System Properties, click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System restore tab.

Turn it on when you again start the computer. This will delete all restore points made before that time.
So the virus would'nt be able to bounce back by using the restore resources.

3rd method:
IF ALL THESE METHODS GO IN VAIN. DONT GET UPSET, THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TOO.

One very useful tool, I found out about which many don't know.
Its UNHACKME.

This has also helped me to get rid of some of the viruses.

Google it. Its free for trial. If you cannt find it, ask me to find it for you in a comment.
What it does is it overtakes your system and scans everything on startup and show all the doubtfull programs or processes. It also shows how much a program is useful/harmful to you in %age. So you can guess what you shoud block and what you should allow.
When you get a feel that virus no longer bothers you, you should uninstall it.
For advanced users it even show every process, running on startup or at background and also the address of the process in the file explorer. So you can get which process is of which software.

4rth method:
If all above fail too, what you can do is download hijackthis. Run it and post the "log" to the forums available on many sites where professionals will now help you to proceed forward.
Though I have never got any reply of my hijackthis "log". But who knows you find yourself luckier than me.

How to prevent viruses, worms, trojans etc .........?

Well I am talking about viruses, worms and trojans here, there is no straight answer to how can we remain fully protected.
Every computer connected through Internet is prone to various security flaws.

Its surprising to see many people on Internet don't take the basic security measures seriously.

Even, I have found some of my computer engineering fellow mates in my college with antivirus-less PCs.
Many don't update it.

Having an un-updated version of an antivirus is equivalent to not having an antivirus at all. Because we find that most outdated viruses become dormant. So the virus makers release updated versions of their viruses to counter the updated anti viruses.

So what should we do........?

We should first all have a good antivirus installed on system, which should be updated frequently.An antivirus prevents entry of such programs to your PC's and remove them.
Then for all of us using Internet, we require a firewall as well.
A firewall is a great tool to prevent any un-authorized activity and access to your system.
Then there are spy wares, ad wares, mal wares available to increase your protection.To sum up all, many companies provide complete security suite like NORTON, AVG, KAPERSKY, NOD32 etc.

Even after having an antivirus installed on your system Trojans may find entry to your systems. Because this is what trojans are made for. They breach the antivirus wall of your system and gain entry.
But they can be removed by scanning your computer later [which we should do often].

VIRUS, WORM , TROJAN .................all of u who are on Internet, must have come across these names often. Most people don't know the exact meaning of these words, and treat them as same.

First of all to start with, we should know, what these all mean ?

VIRUSES, WORMS, TROJANS........They all aren't the same.

Trojans - files carrying hidden malicious payloads
A Trojan refers to a program that appears as something you may think is safe, but hidden inside is usually something harmful, probably a worm or a virus. The lure of Trojans is that you may download a game or a picture, thinking it's harmless, but once you execute this file (run it), the worm or virus gets to work. Sometimes they'll only do things to annoy you, but usually a worm or virus will cause damage to your system.The Trojans mostly get the backdoor entry to your system and paste the virus embedded with it to your system which then causes damage.

Viruses - computer programs designed to cause trouble to your computer
The basic defination of a computer Virus is one who can act as 'living being' by propagating itself. It is actually artificially created creature with ability to self propagate in the virtual medium. Bt now days, as Viruses are mostly produced to harm the systems and networks, defination has been little altered. Nowdays Viruses are reffered as computer programs with the sole purpose of destroying data on our computers. The virus may only destroy unimportant files, or it may decide to erase all of your document files. A virus can cause an infected computer to do funny things on certain dates, as well as issue serious commands such as erasing our Registry file, thus disabling the operation and booting up of our computers.
Viruses are spread through executable files we either get from friends, download off the net, or install through a floppy disk. A virus will often come disguised under the cloak of a Trojan, which is the carrier for the virus.

Worms - actively replicate themselves
Worms operate differently. Do you remember the Star Trek show called 'The Trouble with Tribbles'?. These little creatures just kept replicating themselves, each one multiplying themselves over and over. Worms act much the same way.
Worms generally come through our email client, but people can also get infected if they accept a Trojan File which has as the payload a worm. If you receive a worm program through your email, and then execute it, this program sends the worm file out to all that are listed in your email address book. If you work in a major corporation, this could means hundreds of people, and so the multiplying continues.
